On Monday January 20th, our President/CEO Stuart J. Mitchell was honored as an “Everyday Hero” at the Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission’s 29th Annual Community-Wide Celebration, held at Eastman Theater.
The theme of this year’s event was “50 Years: Social, Civil, Political, Economic Justice? Do We Have The Will…” Guests were entreated to commit themselves to strive for peace and justice in their community. Participants in the day’s ceremonies included members of Rochester’s faith communities, Mayor Lovely Warren and Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
The “Everyday Hero” is described as a Rochestarian who embraces the idea that ‘true greatness can only be achieved through service to fellow members of the Beloved Community,’ and whose actions ‘improve the city of Rochester and its surrounding region.’ Stuart has dedicated his life’s work to the philosophies of Dr. King, and was recognized specifically for his work in Economic and Social Justice.
