ROCHESTER, NY (February 7, 2011)- William LaForte, chairperson of the Sojourner House at PathStone, Inc. Board of Directors and Stuart J. Mitchell, president & CEO of PathStone Corporation take great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Mary Wilmot as the new President of Sojourner House and Senior Vice President for Community Services at PathStone Corporation.
Wilmot will succeed the current Sojourner House President, Germaine Knapp, who will leave her post on February 28. Knapp joined Sojourner House in 1997. “We will miss Germaine very much. She has been a great leader for our Sojourner women and families. Germaine provided a vision for accomplishing our mission, and offered inspiration and hope for women who were at a crisis point in their lives.” said LaForte of Knapp’s departure. “During her distinguished tenure, hundreds of women learned essential life skills, which then gave them structure and strength to lead meaningful and productive lives. Germaine leaves a wonderful legacy and a solid foundation upon which we can continue the mission of Sojourner House, so that we can better our community with even more successful outcomes.”
LaForte further went on to say, “While Germaine will be missed, the Sojourner House Board is enthusiastic and excited that Mary Wilmot will serve as our next President. Mary brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of our community to this position. She has a passion for women and children, and will continue the great work that Sojourner provides to the women and families in Rochester. The Board looks forward to working with Mary to further the mission of Sojourner House.”
Most recently, Wilmot served as regional director for former governor, David Paterson, and before that, the New York State Senate. Wilmot was responsible for constituent affairs and relationship building with members of the business community, higher education, health care and the not-for-profit community throughout Western, NY.
”Mary brings over 15 years of demonstrated expertise in marketing, communications, strategic and tactical planning, program management, fundraising, public-private partnerships and a long standing passion for community service,” said PathStone President & CEO, Stuart Mitchell.
Wilmot will assume her new position on February 14. “I am thrilled to have been offered this unique opportunity to work with a team of dedicated board members and staff to provide much-needed housing and case management to women and children in critical need of assistance,” said Wilmot. “I am looking forward to telling the story of the courageous women and their children who have joined in partnership with Sojourner to live responsible and meaningful lives.”
Prior to working for the New York State Senate, Wilmot was responsible for marketing, advertising, customer service at Wilmorite and she served as the Director of Development and Events Coordination for Lifespan. Wilmot holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Nazareth College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from St. John Fisher College.
Since 1982, Sojourner House has assisted over 2,000 women and their families in reaching their goals concerning education, employment, family stability, sobriety, and financial independence. Sojourner House and PathStone affiliated on August 1, 2009.
